WHAT HAPPENS AT A DEATH CAFE?
A death cafe is a group discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes and is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session.
People come together in a relaxed and safe setting to discuss death and share food and drink. The objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to making the most of our (finite) lives.
As queer people our connections can be outside the mainstream, with different or non-normative relationships with family or loved ones. We may have experienced prejudice or intolerance around being LGBTQI+ and this may have had an impact on our grieving processes. This is an open and non-judgemental queer space, where we can share similar experiences, speak honestly about death and dying and feel heard.
