Kurdish Dance – Queer Bridges ✨

Language: English

LGBTQIA+ Migrants

A dance of connection. Hands held together. Bodies moving in relation — carrying history, memory, and resistance. Kurdish dance is more than movement: it is a collective practice, lived identity, and a space of solidarity.

In this workshop, Kurdish dance is explored as a deeply communal practice. Through holding hands, moving together, and supporting one another, a shared space emerges that can hold joy, grief, and resistance at once.

Kurdish dance carries cultural memory and tells stories of identity and lived resistance. It opens a space where connection is not only visible, but physically felt.

🔥 Led by Yada Barzan, a Kurdish trans man for whom dance became a place of refuge — an embodied space to transform pain into strength. His practice approaches dance as resistance and solidarity, challenging patriarchal structures and gender binaries through a decolonial, trans-inclusive lens.

✨ This workshop is for LGBTQIA+ people with migration and/or displacement experiences. If you do not share these experiences but would like to attend, please contact us first to check availability. We ask all participants to respect the program’s focus and contribute to an open, respectful space.

🌟 With the support of the Deutschen Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome common barriers for individuals with experiences of migration and/or displacement. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life.
