Anti-Blackness Workshop Part 2 with Rebecca Pokua Korang

After the first workshop, this time we will go deeper and explore our relationship to BLACKNESS and ANTI-BLACKNESS IN BALLROOM and other Black spaces, tracing how it has been shaped from childhood to the present day.
Anti-Blackness refers to the systemic, structural, and everyday ways in which Black people and Blackness are devalued, excluded, or stereotyped in society. It goes beyond individual prejudice and is embedded in institutions, histories, and cultural norms that shape unequal outcomes. Understanding Anti-Blackness involves recognizing these patterns and critically reflecting on how they can be challenged.
The workshop creates space for participants to critically examine their own assumptions, behaviours, and responsibilities within the context of Ballroom culture.
Ballroom is African American, Latinx, trans and queer culture. Therefore, we invite white participants, as well as POCs who benefit from white privilege and anti-Blackness, to critically engage with their own positionality in this workshop. We strongly encourage all members of the community who feel addressed to take part.
Rebecca Pokua Korang is an interdisciplinary artist and political educator from Berlin. She studied Dance (BA) at Kingston University in London and Spatial Strategies (MA) at Kunsthochschule Weißensee in Berlin. Her practice engages with Afro-diasporic and postmigrant discourses, as well as anti-racist practices.
